When to Update OCI card (Online and on Gratis basis)

An existing OCI cardholder is required to upload a copy of the new passport containing the photo of the passport holder and also a latest photo (not more than 30 days old) and signature on the OCI portal under “OCI Miscellaneous Services” by visitinghttps://ociservices.gov.in/welcome each time a new passport is issued up to 20 years of age and once after completing 50 years of age. These documents may be uploaded by the OCI cardholder within 3 months of receipt of the new passport.

In case of those who have been registered as OCI cardholder as spouse of foreign origin of a citizen of India/OCI cardholder, the OCI cardholder is required to upload a copy of new passport, latest photo and signature each time a new passport is issued. Such OCI cardholder and his/her spouse will have to give a declaration that their marriage is still subsisting. Copy of Indian passport of Indian spouse or Passport and OCI card of the OCI cardholder spouse shall also be uploaded in such cases;

The updation of new passport particulars by uploading required documents may be done within three months of receipt of new passport. Immediately on submission of the application, an e-mail will be sent to the OCI cardholder automatically acknowledging the submission of the application for updation of passport particulars. After necessary verification, a confirmation e-mail will be sent to the OCI cardholder informing that the updated details have been taken on record. This process does not involve submission of any physical documents to the Outsourcing Service Provider (VFS Global) or the Consulate. The applicant will not receive a new OCI card, only his/her new passport details will be updated with his/her existing OCI Card. This service will be provided on gratis basis. There will be no restriction on the OCI cardholder to travel to/from India during the period from the date of issue of new passport till the date of final acknowledgment of his/her documents in the online system.
