ATTESTATION OF DOCUMENTS SUCH AS COPY OF INDIAN PASSPORT/OCI CARD, APPLICATION FOR PAN CARD, BANK STATEMENT, SALARY STATEMENT, COPY OF DOCUMENTS ISSUED BY US AUTHORITIES (US PASSPORT, DRIVING LICENCE, ETC)

Applicants resident in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and US Virgin Islands can apply for attestation of documents at this Consulate. 

Appostille Convention: The Hague Convention, to which India and USA are signatories, abolishes the requirement of legalization for Foreign Public Documents. With the certification by the Hague Convention 'Apostille', the document is entitled to recognition in India and vice versa and no certification by the Consulate is required. The Convention applies to public documents which have been executed in the territory of one Contracting State and which have to be produced in the territory of another Contracting State. 

The Consulate does not attest any document issued by the authorities in India. If any document issued by authorities in India such as birth and death certificates, affidavits, educational documents/diplomas, marriage certificate, Driving License,etc, is required to be presented to authorities in USA, it should be apostilled in India. For details, please visit the website:http://www.mea.gov.in/apostille.htm .  However, for the ease of Indian nationals, the Consulate does “True Copy Attestation Only” of the documents issued by authorities in India, which does not mean certifying the genuineness of the document.

No Commercial Documents are attested by the Consulate.  Such documents should be got apostilled from the US Authorities for presenting in India.  The apostille is done by the Office of Secretary of State of the state concerned.

How to Apply in Person:

1.

Download the Application for Miscellaneous Services , fill it up carefullyand affix your photograph.

2.

Submit original and photocopy of current valid passport.  Indian passport holders should also submit original and photocopy of the documents showing valid US Visa Status. 

3.

Submit original and photocopy of any of the following documents as proof of residence: US Driving License, State Identity Card, Lease Agreement, Mortgage Deed or Utility Bills (Electricity, water or gas bills).

4.

It is mandatory for the documents issued by the US Government authorities to be got apostilled from the Office of Secretary of State of the state concerned before presenting them for attestation at the Consulate.

Local documents such as the documents issued by the local educational institutions/universities/schools, bank statement, salary statement, letter of employment, application form for PAN Card, etc need to be self-attested by the applicant and only signature of the applicant will be attested.  Please submit original and two copies of the documents to be attested.  On each document to be attested, applicant will state “Itake full responsibility for the contents of the document” and write full name and sign as in the passport.

For attestation of Indian passport, Driving License, Pan Card, Aadhaar Card, Voter ID,etc, applicant may submit original and two copies of the same. Documents which are not apostilled from India will not be authenticated by the Consulate and such documents will only be attested as ‘True Copy Attestation Only”.On each document to be attested, applicant will state “Itake full responsibility for the contents of the document” and write full name and sign as in the passport.

6.

Fee:  A fee of US$ 10.00 (Ten only) per attestation and US$2.00(Two Only) towards Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) per application. For subsequent documents, US$ 10.00 (Ten only) each must be paid. The fees may be paid in cash or by money orders/cashier’s cheques, drawn separately towards the fee and ICWF, in favour of Consulate General of India, Atlanta.

7.

Timings for Submission of Applications: 10.00 AM to 12.30 PM on all working days.  No prior appointment is required.

8.

Processing Time: Delivered on the same day from 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm.

How to Apply by Mail:

1.

Follow the same procedure to fill up the application and enclose the same required documents as detailed above in the section ‘How to Apply in Person’ and send the application enclosing a trackable pre-paid self-addressed return mailing envelope. Incomplete applications will be sent back indicating the requisites to complete.

2.

Fee:  A fee of US$ 10.00 (Ten only) per attestation and US$ 2.00 (Two Only) towards Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) per application. For subsequent documents, US$ 10.00 (Ten only) each must be paid.  The fees may be paid by money orders/cashier’s cheques, drawn separately towards the fee and ICWF, in favour of Consulate General of India, Atlanta.

Processing time: Ten working days from the date of receipt of application, subject to submission of all requisite documents.
