EMERGENCY VISA GUIDELINES

1. The Government of India, from time to time, has revoked the suspension on several categories of visas for travel to India, which were earlier put in place due to Covid-19 pandemic. The details of currently permitted categories are available at PERMITTED CATEGORIES FOR TRAVEL TO INDIA.bullet

2. The Government of India has restored most of the visas, which had been suspended earlier. However, these do not include electronic visas (e-Visa) of any type, Tourist Visa and Medical Visa, which continue to remain suspended.

3. Below is the list of some of the categories of visa whose suspension has been lifted and hence, if the applicant holds a valid regular paper visa (and not an electronic visa) of these categories, there is no need for a fresh visa:

(a) Entry (X) Visas

(b) Business (B) Visas

© Employment (E) Visas

(d) Student (S) Visas

4. Foreign nationals of Indian origin residing in the following US States and Territories: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virgin Islands and requiring a visit to India in family emergencies may note the following:

(i) Please visit https://indianvisaonline.gov.inbullet  and apply for REGULAR/PAPER VISA APPLICATION and make an application for ENTRY VISA. Fill the application, upload the photo, submit the application and take a print-out of the visa application and sign the same;

(ii) Thereafter, please send the following documents in PDF format by e-mail to cons.atlanta@mea.gov.in:

a. Copy of duly filled-in and signed online visa application form and Additional Particulars Form;bullet

b. Copy of Renunciation certificate/cancelled Indian passport with endorsement that foreign nationality has been acquired (if previous nationality was Indian). If renunciation certificate has not been obtained earlier, please make an application with VFS (details available at https://services.vfsglobal.com/usa/en/ind/apply-for-renunciation) bullet and enclose a copy of the fee receipt received on submission of renunciation application along with your visa application;

c. Eligibility:  Copy of last-held Indian passport (first and last pages), OR copies of the Indian passports of the parents together with birth certificate of the applicant, if the applicant was born abroad; OR copy of Indian passport of spouse and marriage certificate where the applicant is married to an Indian national; and Letter from the doctor/hospital in case of emergencies like critical medical condition/death in the immediate family;

d. Additional documentation for minor applicants: (a) Birth certificate of the applicant; (b) Parental Authorization Form bullet duly signed by both parents and notarized; and (c) Passports and US visa status documents of both parents;

e. Copy of address proof: US Driver Licence, State Identification Card, Lease Agreement, Mortgage Deed, Income Tax Return or Utility Bills - Electricity, Water or Gas;

f. Copy of passport.

5. Once the application has been approved, the applicant will be asked to send the physical application to the Consulate by post along with supporting documents and visa fees (to be conveyed on approval) for grant of visa. Please do not send the application or visit the Consulate unless the visa has been approved.
