The online module for submission and processing of application forms for registration as OCI card holders and providing OCI miscellaneous services has been rolled out with effect from 1st January, 2016.  It is mandatory for the applicants to upload the supporting documents, photographs and the signature in the online system.

VFS Global is the only authorized Service Provider for the Embassy of India and the Consulates General of India across USA for Passport, Visa, OCI and Renunciation of Indian Citizenship services.

Residents of the following US States and Territories can apply for OCI at the VFS Application Centre, Atlanta: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virgin Islands.

Consulate General of India, Atlanta does not accept OCI applications directly from the applicants by walk-in or post.

Those who have not renounced their Indian citizenship may apply for Renunciation and on receiving the Renunciation Certificate may apply for OCI. Renunciation and OCI cannot be applied for together.

Rules for Re-issue of OCI Card (On obtaining new Passport)

(i) An OCI cardholder should get the OCI card re-issued once when a new passport is issued after completing 20 years of age. In relaxation of this requirement, extension of time for re-issuance of OCI Cards has been granted till 31st December, 2021.

(ii) An OCI cardholder should upload a copy of the new passport containing the photo of the passport holder and also a latest photo on the online system under OCI Miscellaneous Services each time a new passport is issued up to 20 years of age and once after completing 50 years of age. These documents may be uploaded by the OCI cardholder within three months of receipt of the new passport.

(iii) In the case of those who have been registered as OCI cardholder as spouse of foreign origin of a citizen of India or spouse of foreign origin of an OCI cardholder, the OCI cardholder shall upload a copy of the new passport containing the photo of the passport holder and also a latest photo on the online system under OCI Miscellaneous Services each time a new passport is issued. In such cases, the OCI cardholder and his/her Indian spouse or OCI cardholder spouse will have to give a declaration that their marriage is still subsisting. Copy of Indian passport of the Indian spouse/Passport and OCI card of the OCI cardholder spouse shall also be uploaded in such cases. These documents may be uploaded by the OCI cardholder (spouse of foreign origin) within three months of receipt of his/her new passport.

(iv) Immediately on uploading of documents as mentioned in sub-paras (iii) and (iv) above, an e-mail will be sent to the OCI cardholder confirming that documents have been successfully uploaded. After necessary security verification, another e-mail will be sent to the OCI cardholder informing that the updated details have been taken on record.

(v) There will be no restriction on the OCI cardholder to travel to/from India during the period from the date of issue of new passport till the date of final acknowledgement of his/her documents in the online system.

(vi) Necessary action is being taken to develop appropriate modules under OCI Miscellaneous Services in the OCI portal to implement the above decisions regarding uploading of documents.
